James Notley Jennings, affectionately known as “Lad”, 92, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016 at his residence. James was born October 10, 1923 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the late Notley Jennings and Elba Cormier Jennings. James graduated from high school early, so he could enter the military. James was a World War II veteran and survivor of the D-Day invasions. He served in the Battle of the Bulge and also served on five campaigns. James’ father was also in World War II and it wasn’t until then, they both showed up at a pub in France that James was able to see his father for the first time in a long time. James was an honorable man who was a perfectionist, but very humble. He was a disciplinarian, but a very kind man with a huge heart. He was devoted to his family and always put his wife first. James always took his son fishing every Friday and attended all of his baseball games. He encouraged his son to attend and complete college. James taught his children, to believe in themselves. He would tell them, they could accomplish anything in life as long as they put their minds to it. He loved to make jewelry with his daughter and he enjoyed drawing. James was a Master Machinist for Texaco Refinery. He trained others and retired after 44 years of service.
James was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 55 years, Eugenia Jennings; daughter, Mary Anna Redmon and a sister, Joyce Wester. He is survived by his son, Dale Jennings and his wife Bonnie, daughters, Jeanne K. England and her husband James “Butch” and Betty Gayneaux; nephew, Brent Wester and his wife Susan; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, June 7, 2016 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Funeral services for “Lad” will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2016 in the chapel of Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
