Avner had been a resident of Port Arthur since 1948 after moving here from Kaplan. He married Lillian Herpin on January 19, 1935 and was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a retired construction worker and carpenter. One of Avner’s greatest joys was attending horse races. In his earlier years he was a rice farmer.
Mr. Dartez is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters and 5 brothers.
His survivors include his wife of 77 years, Lillian Dartez of Port Arthur; daughter, Mildred Straughn and husband W.L., Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of his family and friends will be held on Monday, April 2, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, Port Arthur.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church with burial immediately following at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Hanks, John Ford, Glen Thibodeaux, A.J. Webber, Joshua Hanks and David Mouton. Honorary pallbearers will be W.L. Straughn, Jr., Maldrid Chauvin, and Harvey Mouton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. James Catholic Church, 3503 Gulfway Drive, Port Arthur, Texas 77642.
