Born in Alhambra, Alberta Harry moved to Coombs as a child and grew up in the rural community working on the farm. He left home and served aboard the Prince Robert with Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. Following which he and his wife Elsie settled and raised their family in Port Alberni. Harry was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55 and a member of the Son’s of Norway. Harry was a dedicated employee as a Longshoreman, he took his work very seriously. He was also a bit of a sportsman, golfing, curling and bowling in his younger days. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jay's fan, but his real passion was fishing. Harry had a soft, kind heart and this was evidenced by the scores of kids that called him Gaga.
A Celebration of his life will take place at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 24, 2010 from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 55, 3031-4th Avenue, Port Alberni. Cremation. Harry’s cremated remains will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery’s Field of Honour along with those of his wife Elsie.
