February 16, 1927 – October 2, 2014
A colorful and generous soul left this world on October 2nd, 2014, quite un-expectantly. She was doing so well and had so many projects planned, she was looking good and feeling healthy and so her passing came as a shock to us all.
She lived a full life, of that you can be assured. She loved the children most of all and the love she received from them filled her heart with joy. She had a very special place for her grandchildren, both of blood and the adopted ones that she collected along the way.
She had a soul that felt so much and this was a cause of great sorrow for her as well as great joy. She was not without her troubles but her resilience was amazing. She was sound of mind even when her body weakened over time; she would often comment on how her mind was like a young woman’s in an old woman’s body. She was a strong woman and her wish was that the memory of her be of the good she had to share with others.
We had the opportunity to talk about what she wanted to say when the time came and so these are her wishes. She wanted to make sure that the following people were specifically acknowledged for their support and love: Marsha McGowan, who provided ongoing loving and caring support for her so she could continue to live independently; Jean Blight, for her love and friendship; Rob Jones for his friendship and the many other friends at the First Baptist Church who accepted, supported and cared for her. It was also her wish to acknowledge Kaitlyn from the Medicine Shop, for bringing her what she needed on a regular basis and who she adored for her joyful and kind nature.
The steadfast commitment to her, and support from, her son in-law Pete Dekens never went un-noticed and she loved him very much. Last, but not least, she wanted to make sure to acknowledge her deepest appreciation for her “loving daughter Dora”, who she was able to reunite with in a very special way that only a daughter and mother can know.
She is free from pain now and joins her loved ones in the spiritual realm.
The family wishes to express extreme gratitude to the members of the First Baptist Church who accepted and cared for her. Their support was instrumental for her ability to stay independent and the friendship they provided gave her knowledge of the true meaning of God’s love. There was a peace about her that we noticed and are grateful for.
Thank you to all who supported and were kind to Tina in her aging years.
A memorial service for Tina will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 18th, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, 6211 Cherry Creek Rd, Port Alberni, BC. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.chapelofmemories.ca.
