Diane quietly departed this world in her home on April 27, 2023 with her immediate family at her side after a brief battle with cancer. Diane was the second child to Harvey Alderson and Dorothy Mabel Almas in Hamilton, Ontario. Diane grew up during the latter part of the depression. Her father's early passing caused her to enter the work force at the age of 15. Her work ethic remained a consistent part of her character throughout her life. Her first job was at S.F. Bowser Co., where she met the love of her life, Robert George Hoadley.
Bob and Diane were married on September 20th, 1952. They raised three children; Bruce Douglas (Muriel - deceased) of London Ontario, Dayle Diane (Gary) of Victoria, BC and Paul Raymond (Irene) of Port Alberni, BC.
In the summer of 1966, the family moved to Port Alberni and settled at Sproat Lake. They first lived in a small cottage at Bishop's Landing while building their home on Faber Road. It was in that home on Faber that the family entertained many friends and created life long memories. Later in life, Bob and Diane 'downsized' to the present home 'in town'.
Diane worked as a school secretary for School District 70 for 31 years. She was a very dedicated and organized office administrator. In fact, there are those who have said that she was instrumental in keeping the school she was working at running smoothly!
After retirement, Diane and Bob traveled extensively, collecting many friends and memories along their way. After Bob's passing in May 2013, Diane continued to travel and had a very active social life which included bridge, floor curling, Wist, May I and her beloved Beta Sigma Phi.
Along with her children, Diane is survived by her grandchildren, Stephen (Gwen), Michael, Sarah (Jordon) and Melissa Hoadley; her great grandchildren, Abigayle, Benjamin and Raiden. They, along with many relatives in Ontario and the US will cherish memories of her ready smile, quick wit and stylish attire.
The family would like to thank the support given by her neighbours, Kath and Tylo, as well as the outstanding generosity of her Beta Sigma Phi sisters. A special thanks to Dr. S. Williams for navigating the family through this difficult chapter in our lives. Mom departed this world in the manner in which she lived it; with dignity and grace.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. There will be a celebration of life later in the year. The Silver Fox is dancing with Bob again!
