Sharon, Vancouver Island born and raised, moved to Port Alberni in 1988. She worked hard as a single mom, often working the nightshift to provide for her children Stacey and Ryan. Through her work at the Barclay hotel, she built up a circle of friends and reconnected with her high-school sweetheart, Paul, a connection that added to Sharon's family. Sharon accompanied Paul on many work trips and helicopter rides. Sharon enjoyed crochet, flowers, and having immaculate manicures that garnered compliments from strangers almost daily. She looked forward to her nail and gossip appointments with Tanya.
When she finally retired from the Barclay hotel, Sharon and Paul traveled, went to concerts and spoiled their little dog, Shadow. Sharon loved gardening and come Spring, she was found often making several return trips to each of the nurseries and hunting thrift stores for new unique containers to plant in. The garden on the deck and the backyard, was a source of joy and peace for her even as recently as this past summer and when Fall came, she insisted on weekly trips to the floral department to have flowers in the house.
Sharon's crowning achievement was becoming a Grandmother to Ryan and Dana's children, and nothing could brighten her day more than a visit or a call from Kellan and London. She could be found (and heard) at the soccer field on the coldest of days and right until the end, praising their school and artistic achievements.
Sharon is predeceased by her father William Smith and her mother Beverley Smith. She is survived by her husband, Paul, her two children Stacey and Ryan (Dana) and her grandchildren Kellan and London. She will also be missed by Paul's children Sheena (Nathan), Chad (Valerie) and their children Gavin, Carys, Aiden and Alanna; as well as her siblings Brenda, Barb (Frank), Brad, and Barry; Ryan and Stacey's father Wayne (Sonja); all her friends; and Stacey's dog Audrey.
There will be a small gathering for family in the future.
The family wishes to thank the home and community care nurses and home support workers as well as Dr. Woodley and Dr. Johnson
