John “Doc” Holliday was born January 6, 1938 and was raised in Poplarville, Mississippi. John was the oldest son of John and Irene Holiday, of Poplarville, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Thomas B. Holliday. John “Doc” died June 3rd, 2024, in Bastrop, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn Holliday, Son, Kerry Holliday, Daughters, Kim Goree & her husband Frank, Kay Redd & her husband David. Two Grandsons, Jonathan Redd and his wife Kayla, and Christopher Redd. Five Granddaughters, Shelby Smith and her husband Mattie and their son, the Great Grandson of Doc, Carter Smith, Mackenzie Holliday, Katelyn Holliday, Haley Redd and Reagan Holliday, and Doc’s special friend, Socks the Cat. Doc had many nephews, nieces and cousins. John “Doc” graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1963 with a bachelor’s in business administration. Doc retired in 1998 from the Texas Park and Wildlife. Doc and Carolyn are long time members of the First Baptist Church of Smithville, Texas.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at the Poplarville City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Tim Russell, Rusty Russell, Phillip Russell, Mark Russell Monty Jarell, Ben Smith, Dempsey Seals, Hudson Holliday, Johnny Hall, Frank Goree and Woody Applewhite.
