Elsie Marie Griffin Blanke, age 93, died Thursday, September 26, 2013 at her residence. She was born to Marlin and Sue Stanford Griffin. She was a graduate of Pontotoc High School and received a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Blue Mountain College. She married Joseph “Joe” Blanke in 1945, and they made their home in Hattiesburg, MS until his death. In Hattiesburg, they were active members of Temple Baptist Church. She taught school in Richton, MS for two years and worked at Hercules Powder Company as the payroll supervisor for forty years. After moving to Pontotoc in 1996, she became a member of First Baptist Church, where she was active in WMU and missions. She enjoyed playing bridge with her bridge club, working crossword puzzles, and exercising at the Pontotoc Wellness Center. She was passionate in cooking for others and delivering home cooked meals to her friends and family. She was an avid reader and gave a review of Barbara Bush’s book, A Memoir, dressed as Barbara for the Pontotoc County Library Luncheon with Books.
Survivors include her three sisters: Clarice Duff, Marlene Michael (Carl) and Wilma Chittom, all of Pontotoc, MS and ten nephews: Edward Dandridge, Ralph Dandridge, David Henry, Sam Erst Long, Randy Long, George Duff, Dr. Marlin Duff, Al Duff, Walter Chittom and Mike Griffin; and six nieces: Susie Marshall, Sharon Long, Ellen Russell, Suzanne Ray, Claire Sullivan and Martha Klair Griffin and a host of great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters: Grace Dandridge, Estelle Henry and Velma Long; one brother: Max Griffin and two nephews: Sam Henry and Brad Henry.
