Peter M. Antonucci, a dedicated entrepreneur, respected leader in the construction materials field, devoted family man, and lively presence at social and industry gatherings, passed away peacefully in his Pompano Beach, Florida home on December 7, 2024, at the age of 85, following a brief illness.
Born in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Antonucci attended Boys High School before proudly serving in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge. Following his service, he earned a degree in Business Management from the City University of New York, setting the stage for a remarkable career in the terrazzo and industrial flooring industry.
Mr. Antonucci began his professional journey in the Terrazzo division of Boiardi Products. With a keen business sense, he helped expand the terrazzo division at Seaboard Tile & Terrazzo in Long Island. His growing expertise led him to the Epoxy Products division of HB Fuller Corporation, a prominent provider of construction materials. In 1981, he was recruited by Harry Rich Affiliates to lead its terrazzo and industrial flooring division, ultimately rising to Chief Operating Officer and earning a reputation as a decisive, forward-thinking, and highly effective leader.
In 1995, Mr. Antonucci charted his own path by founding Specialty Flooring System. Under his stewardship as CEO, Specialty Flooring grew into one of the largest terrazzo and industrial flooring firms in the New York area. Known for his strong leadership style, he was also widely respected for his commitment to supporting union workers and industry events, often using his influence to bolster the professional community he cherished. After guiding countless projects and building substantial professional relationships, he retired in 2005, leaving behind a legacy of growth and innovation in his field.
Beyond his business achievements, Mr. Antonucci’s personal life was marked by warmth, community spirit, and a knack for bringing people together. He was known as the life of the party—someone whose vibrant personality and generous spirit made everyone around him feel valued and welcome. While raising his family in Staten Island, New York, he devoted many seasons to coaching youth baseball, sharing his passion for the sport and mentoring young athletes. Later, he and his wife, Maria, moved to Manasquan, New Jersey, and ultimately settled in Pompano Beach, Florida, where he immersed himself in retirement life.
An avid golfer, Mr. Antonucci took great pleasure in spending time on the fairways and greens. He enjoyed organizing a golf league for his retirement community, ensuring that others could share in the camaraderie and excitement he found in the game.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Maria; his son Peter and his wife, Maria Amato-Antonucci ; his son Marc and his wife Christina; and his five grandchildren, Peter, Thomas, Nikolas, Sabrina, and Alexander. Philip is also survived by his sisters Roseann Antonucci and Susanne Antonucci.
His family will remember him as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who worked tirelessly for their well-being and took genuine pride in their accomplishments.
Mr. Antonucci’s presence—at home, at industry events, on the baseball field, or on the golf course—was one that commanded respect, inspired others, and brought people together. While his loss will be deeply felt, his legacy endures in the thriving companies he nurtured, the loved ones he guided, and the countless lives he touched through his larger-than-life spirit.
