I am sad I came across this as I thought Mary outlive us all. I met Mary & Clarence in the late 80s at Winn Dixie where we all worked and from the time we met she treated me like I was her son. They even honored me by coming to my wedding. Mary was the kindest, sweetest most loving person. I was always bummed I moved away since we lost touch. RIP Mary. Thanks for all the advice and being you. You will be missed. Now Mary & Clarence are enjoying a meal together again at the Swiss Chalet in the sky. 

Dear Aunt Mary,

Knowing you are now in heaven brings a tear to my eye but also a smile to my face knowing you are now with your beloved husband, Uncle Clarence.   I have  been blessed that you and Uncle Clarence (my Godfather) were in my life.   I truly can’t think of a bad memory with you two.    I have wonderful memories and photos that will comfort me now that you’re gone.   Trips to Florida to see you all, so much laughter when our families were making memories just enjoying each other’s company.   You guys able to attend the family reunions in Illinois.   The last few times visiting you in Florida were wonderful, filled with stories of the past that I didn’t know and your eyes would sparkle when you talked about Uncle Clarence.  And your laugh, you had the best laugh!   You are truly missed but we will meet again.  Hugs and kisses, your niece - Sheila


To my Jiggyma,

There’s so much to say but I only have 2,000 word limit. So, I’ll be brief. Some of the best memories were spent with you and grandpa! Of course mom too, but you guys were my grandparents. Always spoiling the one and only granddaughter! We always had the best summers going to the beach at sunrise, going to that park with that awesome tree, shopping for CD’s before they became nonexistent, baking homemade foods, or just sitting on the front porch solving brain puzzles from the local newspaper. I’d have to say, my favorite board game is Othelo, which I believe I beat mom every time because of your teachings! 

You were lucky enough to watch me grow up to be an adult. And you were also very lucky to watch Natalie, your great granddaughter grow. I wish we lived closer so you could see both my girls and myself more frequently. I know it’s a fact of life growing old and loosing your loved ones, but it’s still not fair. I will see you and grandpa “Jiggypa” one day in the future! There will be tons of catching up to do. So until then, we will continue to see your spirits flying beautifully around as butterflies! We love and miss you tons! 

P.S. I know you didn’t know my husband, Brian, very well, but he loved every minute when he met you the few times we came over! 

Good morning Mom,

I find it difficult to find the best words to express myself in this guestbook. As you know, I am seldom at a loss for something to say. The day God called you home, two Zebra Longwing butterflies appeared and were flying around the Passion Vine. They appeared within minutes of you taking your last breath. I'm thinking that was you and Dad. He came to get you and you both flew by here to tell me goodbye. Most every morning now there is one, sometimes two butterflies, flying around the vine. The neighbors probably think I am goofy because I always talk to the butterflies, in case it is you and/or Dad visiting.

There are no words to truly express how blessed and privileged I am to be your daughter (and Dad's also). Every child, especially daughters, should experience being part of a family like ours. You taught me so many things, many of which I had no real appreciation for when I was younger. The many lessons learned to get me through daily life were only appreciated as I grew up and as I needed to use them,. There are too many to list. The most valuable lessons though were lessons of the heart. To name a few, you taught me the art of being respectful, loving, compassionate, cooperative, humble yet confident, appreciative. I have my faults, like everyone does, but you taught me to be a well-rounded individual. I pray that I have (and will continue to) made you proud of me. I have made my share of mistakes as a mother, But, if I have been even half the mother to Nicole that you have been to me then she is one lucky kid.

I have to go before I start to ramble on. Only you and I will appreciate this, but periodically I start sing "The Old Grey Mare" for no apparent reason. LOL.  That is "our" song.

I love you Mom and am eternally grateful you are my Mom.

As a nephew I can truly say that I enjoyed my visits with Aunt Mary and Uncle Clarence when they came to Illinois from Florida to visit with Grandma and Lydia.  I'll miss our telephone conversations with Aunt Mary since I grew up.


Mary was a kind and friendly lady.  She was my first cousin.  My mom was in her wedding.  I always loved going with Mary when I was young .  My sister and I were younger,but Mary had her drivers license.   She would take us for a ride.   I thought that was cool  at my age.  She will be missed. 

We so enjoyed our visits with Mary and Clarence. Mary was always smiling and Clarence always had a story to share. Even our last visit when Mary wasn’t as usual, she still would smile at Kathy and bring up the “ole” days in O’Fallon. They were such a wonderful couple. Love to you and Nicole, Syd and Carol

Mary and Clarence were like parents to me as Kathy was and is my best friend. I am so sorry I have not seen Mary in years after moving away but she was a warm and loving mother and she loved her granddaughter and great-granddaughters. I know she is in heaven with my mom and they are watching us now and I look forward to seeing her again one day in Heaven. It’s a blessing she does not have to suffer any more. I will miss you Mary and remember you with love.

Mary was a dear sweet lady.  From the day I met her 20 plus years ago she always remembered my birthday with a card and I received a Christmas card from her every year.
