John and I were best friends on active duty with the Navy Seabees.  We went to Vietnam, and later we were chosen to be on 2 Seabee Teams, 0412 and 0415, which  deployed to Palau.  We were roommates while in the US, and had many great experiences together.   When we were released from active duty in 1972, John convinced me to join the Navy Reserve, which only in hindsight turned out to be a great decision.  He went home to his home state of LA, and I went home to Sacramento.   Then sadly, somewhere along the way we lost touch.   Each of us tried to reconnect with the other, but it wasn't until August of 2014 that I finally managed to call him at work.  We had a brief conversation, and by the time I called again he had passed.   I miss him still.

We will miss John and his daily posts on facebook. The pictures of sunsets were amazing.  I know he is rejoicing with our other family members and our Heavenly Father. Bastrop, Louisiana, was a great place to grow up, and John has many friends from there, as well as all over the globe.  It is comforting to know that he will be awaiting our arrival in eternity, greeting us with that smile that we've all come to know and love.  Until we meet again, John, you will be missed here on earth.

John Traxler was a true gentleman in the construction industry. He was always an advocate for his co-workers, and very genuine.  I will miss him more than he probably would have expected, and offer my heartfelt gratitude to him for believing in me.

John was a high school friend.  He was the nicest & funniest person I knew.  We shared many classes together.  I was so happy when I found John on Facebook.  I loved his posts so much!  I feel I'm a better person for knowing him.  God gained a wonderful man on Dec. 1.

I'm in shock and disbelief that such a wonderful person has been taken too soon. John was truly one of those extremely rare persons that I would tell others, "If you don't like John Traxler, there is clearly something wrong with you." He was kind, generous, calm, warmhearted, and hardworking. Most important he was a devoted family man, and a devoted man of God. My many years at Rooney were much more joyous working with John.
