Donald Neeper Scarborough

He was the oldest of three children, and is survived by his sister, Betty Jean Scarborough Lafferty.

"Pop" attended Mount Vernon Methodist Church as a child and young adult. Not only did he accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior early in life, he would also come to realize early on that he was called to preach. In fact, he did begin preaching decades later.

During WW II, he enlisted in the Navy. He took his Basic Training in Chicago, Illinois. His Advanced Individual Training prepared him for his military occupation as a welder. He served at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii after it was attacked on December 7, 1941.

On March 6, 1942 Pop married Melrose M. McGibney. They had two children; Lois Jean born November 24, 1942, and Donald Philip born April 3, 1945. They were divorced in 1958.

Pop married Lucille Henning on November 6, 1961, and became a father to Lucille's daughter, Joyce, and son, Wayne, from a prior marriage. They were followed by Pop and Lucille's daughters, Dorothy and Lucy.

In 1963, the Scarborough family moved into a new home in Wilton Manors. That same year Pop opened up Scarborough's Health Club on Dixie Highway. While the Health Club struggled, a portion of his facility that sold vitamins, health foods, and supplements began to flourish. Eventually, with Lucille right by his side, he opened 6 Scarborough's Health Food Stores in the Ft. Lauderdale Area. Because he had so many retail outlets, he launched his wholesale business, Vitality Distributors, Inc, to become his own supplier of vitamins, supplements, and health foods. Ever the entrepreneur, Pop developed his own line of products under the Vitality label.

Pop rededicated His life to the Lord in 1970. Remembering the call that God placed on his life when he was a young lad, he was slowly led in that direction. When the Pastor at the church he attended recognized Pop's abilities, and encouraged him to pursue the ministry, Pop became inspired and began studies that allowed him to fulfill God's desire for his life. In addition to becoming an Assistant Pastor who would be on call for his own church when needed, he made himself available wherever he was needed. Because he served with "The Gideon's" as a fund raiser, he would often be selected to do Sunday morning presentations at various Protestant Churches. Quite often, a Pastor, who was going on vacation, with no one to fill in for him, would ask Pop to preach. He always agreed, but asked that any payment for his services would be made to the Gideon's.

Pop also served for decades as a Sunday School teacher. No doubt he will long be remembered by his students for the depth of his Bible studies, his incredible knowledge of the Bible and it's history, and his incredible memory that allowed him to memorize hundreds of Bible verses. However, the ones who will never forget him up unto their dying day, are the more than 1600 men that he led to the Lord at the Broward County Jail over his many years in prison ministry.

In his later years Pop became a prolific author and poet with his work exclusively devoted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His creativity knew no bounds. Whenever he announced that he was through writing, another idea for a book would come to him.

Pop lived a long, exceptionally healthy life. And he thoroughly enjoyed learning, teaching, preaching, and travel. In fact, in December of 2014 he traveled to Israel. And in June 2016 he visited Ireland.

Pop will be remembered as: a mighty man of God; a hard working, very successful entrepreneur who provided extremely well for his family in life as well as in death; a preacher; a teacher; a Bible historian; a poet; and an author.
