Marvin was born on November 18, 1933, in Plant City, Florida, the son of Earl Edward DeShong and Thelma Elizabeth Womble.
Marvin was a lifetime resident of Plant City and graduated from Plant City High School in 1952. He was drafted into the United States Army shortly after graduation and was honorably discharged in 1955. Marvin went on to become a Civil Engineer for the Department of Transportation for the State of Florida where he retired after 34 years.
Marvin was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church.
Marvin will be remembered by his loved ones for his devotion to God and his church, his love for his family, and his witty sense of humor. Marvin loved painting and fishing. He especially loved to travel with his wife and listen to bluegrass music.
Remaining to cherish in Marvin’s memory are his devoted wife, Gilberta of 59 years, one brother, Fred (Betty), daughter, Sharon (Eddie), son, Kenneth (Elizabeth), one grandson, Kristopher (Kayla) and three great-grandchildren whom he loved very much, Kaden (16), Kinsley (11), and Klayton (1).
Preceding Marvin in death are his parents, Earl and Thelma DeShong, brothers, Marshall and Ronnie, and sister, Earlene.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to LifePath Hospice who were there to aid in Marvin’s comfort over the last several months.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Wells Memorial and Event Center located at 1903 W Reynolds St, Plant City, FL 33563. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any memorial donations in Marvin’s memory please be directed to Northside Baptist Church located at 1700 North Franklin Street, Plant City, Florida 33563.
