Kay Griffin – born Talatha Elizabeth Douglas in Plant City on May 11, 1925 – passed from this life into the presence of Jesus, her Savior on Monday January 24, 2011. Kay was a home-bound member of Eastside Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Simmie J. Griffin, her son Dr. Richard A. Griffin, his wife Judy D. Griffin, and five grandchildren: Angela K. Owen, Susanna L Hetrick, Matthew M. Griffin, Benjamin G. Griffin and Sarah A. Griffin. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Thrasher and seven dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerry M. Douglas and Tommy R. Douglas.
A graduate of Plant City High School and of Hillsborough Community College, Kay was a homemaker and an educator, having taught Head Start in Hillsborough County for many year, where she received numerous awards and recognitions for her superlative teaching success. Kay was loved by everyone who knew her. Her bright smile and loving disposition will be greatly missed by all of us. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 10:30 to 11:30 at Wells Memorial Chapel. Funeral will follow at 11:30 with Dr. Waylon Carlisle officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
