Jack was born on September 12, 1932 in Waterbury, Vermont to Guy Cheney Brickey and Clyde Nancy Fielder.
Jack graduated from Montpelier High School in 1950. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1953. Jack served in the Army for more than 20 years, until March 3, 1973 achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Jack was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1971 and the Bronze Star Medal –“Meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile force from March 1971 to January 1972 in the Republic of Vietnam”. Jack was recognized by the State of Vermont in 2008 with the Vermont Distinguished Service Medal and the Vermont Veterans Medal. Jack served abroad in Korea (1954-1955), West Germany (1959 – 1962), Korea (1966 – 1967), and Republic of Vietnam (1971 – 1972). After retiring from the Army, Jack went on to work with the United States Civil Service System with the Department of Health and Human Services, including the Social Security Administration from 1973 – June 1994. Jack earned an Associate in Arts Degree from Anne Arundel Community College Maryland, May 1979.
Jack will be remembered by his loved ones for his devotion to God and his church and his love for his family. Jack enjoyed tinkering on various projects and had a keen sense of technology, computers, and for cars and the Boston Red Sox.
Remaining to cherish in Jack’s memory is his devoted wife of 68 years, Dorothy Evelyn Hubbell. His sons, David Wayne Brickey of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kevin Richard Brickey, daughter-in-law, Laura Jane Brickey, grandsons, Guy Cheney Brickey (13) and Matthew Aaron Brickey (11) of Lakeland, Florida and more than 50 nieces and nephews.
Preceding Jack in his death are his parents, Guy and Clyde Nancy Brickey, brothers, Raymond, Ronald, and Edward, and sisters, Mona, Dot, Marion, and Ruth.
Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. with a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at Willow Oak Baptist Church located at 2290 Willow Oak Road, Mulberry, FL 33860. Memorial donations in Jack’s memory may be directed to Willow Oak Baptist Church, P.O. 466, Mulberry, FL 33860.
