William (Bill) D Wilson

Bill was born in Dallas, Texas on March 4, 1939, and graduated from Crozier Tech. After high school, Bill enlisted in the Marine Corps and served on the USS Bennington in Asia as a helicopter mechanic and crew chief in Marine Squadron 163. During his service, he was able to serve alongside his older brother Jimmy Jr. and he established many lifelong friendships.

After his military service, Bill moved to California where he married Joanne Marie Slaven in 1964 and they soon became the proud parents of a daughter Julianne Marie, and a son Jeffery David. While raising his family in Woodland CA, Bill worked at Mobil Chemical as a millwright for 28 years. Bill and the family enjoyed time camping together and riding motorcycles in the CA mountains and beaches. He was a passionate fisherman, golfer and all-around outdoorsman. Bill loved to be surrounded by family and friends and he made every occasion more enjoyable, particularly with his amazing storytelling and wonderful sense of humor. He was very proud of the Marines and his service and was a member of the VFW, the American Legion China Post 1 and the Zamora (CA) Volunteer Fire Department.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Julianne Wilson McDaniel, her husband David, grandchildren Kenny McDaniel and Melissa McDaniel, brother, James F. Wilson, Jr., his sister, Mickey Webb and her husband Jesse. Bill is also survived by his sweetheart of many years, Sandra Griswold, her family and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, James F. Wilson Sr. and Lorrine (King) Wilson, and his son, Jeffery D. Wilson.

A visitation, followed by a Celebration of Life will be held at Ted Dickey funeral home at 2128 18th St, Plano, Texas 75074 on Monday, November 6, 2023. The visitation will be from 4 PM to 5 PM and the Celebration of Life will begin at 5 PM.

Attendees will have the opportunity to share their memories of Bill at this time. Military honors will be presented at the DFW National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 11 AM. In honor of the “cowboy” in Bill, the family invites you to wear cowboy/western apparel to the service on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, you are invited to donate to the veteran focused charity of your choice. Examples would include The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Wreaths Across America or the Wounded Warrior Project.
