Rodney Ray Gant, age 86, passed away on August 12th, 2019 with his family by his side. Rodney was born on Aril 24, 1933 in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his wife Mary Katherine Stone Gant, the love of his life, who he married two weeks after her 16th birthday in December of 1956. They were married for 62 years. He is also survived by their 4 children; Cindi, Craig, Keith and his wife Cheryl and Dale and his wife Elaine, 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 sisters; Louise Cucovatz and Rachel Barrier. He loved his wife and family beyond description.
At age 17 he worked driving a tractor-trailer rig solo from Dallas to various midwestern states. Rodney was in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955, stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany. He retired from the Dallas Fire Department in 1983 at the age of 50 after 22 years of service. Rodney was also an airplane flight instructor and corporate pilot with over 5,000 hours including over 500 hours multi-engine. After retiring he volunteered with the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief Team.
Pappaw was a strong, hardworking man with a great sense of humor. He was loved immensely and will be greatly missed by many.
Services will be held at First Baptist Plano, 1300 East 15th Street, on Friday, August 16th at 10am. Burial at Plano Mutual Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th Street between 6-8pm on Thursday, August 15th.
