She was born on January 9, 1941, in New York City to Harry C and Mary Jane (Cawley) Burke. After graduating from Cathedral Girls High School in New York City, Mary studied English and Comparative Literature in the undergraduate and graduate programs at Hunter College.
She began her career at Morgan Guaranty Trust Company on Wall Street. After marrying her husband James (Jim), they moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Mary taught English for a few years at Horton Watkins High School in Ladue.
Mary and Jim settled in Ballwin, Missouri where they raised their three children. Mary served several roles in the community including President of the Parkway School Board and Neighborhood Chairman of the Girl Scout Council of greater St. Louis. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Parkway School District.
She and her husband Jim were active members of St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Ballwin.
Mary and Jim retired in Dallas, Texas. Mary found her greatest joy in and will be most remembered by her service to others.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jim and her parents, Harry C and Mary Jane (Cawley) Burke.
Mary is survived by her brother: Father Harry J Burke, sons: Jamie and John Hartley (Cindy), daughter: Susan Hartley Wright (John), and grandchildren: Nicholas Hartley (Tori), Avery, Miles, and Maia Hartley; Luke, Brian, Sarah, and Grace Wright.
She will be sincerely missed by her loving family, devoted friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 1 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church- Plano, 2700 Spring Creek Pkwy, Plano, Texas 75023.
