John Jacob Cizek

He was born on May 14, 1932, in Flatonia, Texas, to Roman and Adela Cizek (Stavinoha). His family later moved to Brownwood where he graduated in 1950 from Brownwood High School. While living in San Antonio, he met and married the love of his life, Doris Jo-Ann Dunn, and they were married sixty-seven years. John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

John honorably served in the U.S. Army as part of a Heavy Mortar Company in the Infantry during the Korean War, from December 1952 to September 1954, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He was a dedicated soldier who bravely served his country.

After his military service, John had a fulfilling career, dedicating thirty-seven years to the Texas Department of Public Safety, eventually retiring as a Captain. While serving his state, John graduated with certificates from the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute and the prestigious Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

John was a devout member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Garland, Texas, for thirty-eight years. He found solace and community through his faith.

After the war, John obtained his commercial pilot’s license with multi-engine and instrument ratings. In his free time, John enjoyed various hobbies. In years past he enjoyed deer hunting, while more recently it was watching shows about military history and following the Dallas Cowboys and college football.

John will be dearly missed by his surviving family members: his wife, Doris Jo-Ann Cizek; sons, John Stephen Cizek (Christina) and Christopher Paul Cizek; daughter Kathleen Ann Cizek; grandson Daimen Cizek (Kara); great-grandchildren Gretchen and Jude Cizek; and sister-in-law Edna K. Dunn; He was preceded in death by his father, Roman Cizek, and mother, Adela Cizek.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 10 AM at St Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, located at 950 Trails Pkwy, Garland, TX 75043. Inurnment with US Army Military Honors will ensue in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, 3900 Rowlett Rd, Rowlett, TX 75088.
