Joe Jackson Robertson

On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, our beloved Joe Jackson Robertson was called home suddenly to be with his Lord and Savior. Joe loved the Lord, he loved his family and friends… and he loved his OU Sooners. Joe was a kind and compassionate man who tried to live every day with the motto “what would Jesus do?” His smile was radiant, his laugh was robust and his heart was overflowing with love and true joy. He was thankful for his many blessings and he was faithful to praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Joe was born on September 25, 1943 to Henry Clay and Jessie Roark Robertson, who preceded him in death. Joe’s dearly loved older sister, Linda Robertson Cohen, and younger brother, William Roark Robertson, and cherished Aunt Norma Nelson also preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 34 years, Stephanie Irwin Robertson, and their 5 children: daughter Kelly (& Dale) Marino of Shreveport, LA; daughter Marilynda (& Andy) Townsend of Tulsa, OK; son Robert “Robby” (& Gina) Robertson of Norman, OK; daughter Courtney Hoover of Frisco, TX, and son Ryan Hoover of Shreveport, LA, in addition to 10 precious grandchildren and 10 precious great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his special sister-in-law, Deborah Irwin.

Joe was so many things to so many people… he loved Jesus and was intentional about living a life that would please Him. He was happy, giving, funny, the ultimate protector, the most tender comforter, an honorable and trustworthy man, a man of integrity, a faithful friend, a safe place, the kind and gentle counselor, the passionate sports fan, the peacemaker, always smiling and laughing BIG, the BEST husband, father and Papa… and SO much more!

FAITH, FAMILY, & FRIENDS… these were the essence of Joe Jackson Robertson (yes, named after “shoeless” Joe Jackson). He knew how to love deeply, and he did! He adored his wife, Stephanie, and she, him. He so loved his children, grands, and great-grands. Although we all know that our Joe, Daddy, Dad, Papa Joe and Popeye Joe is with the Lord in Heaven, we will feel his loss forever, and cherish his memory with a heart full of love! He was the best!

Joe grew up, for the most part, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. If ever there was a guy who loved his hometown, it was Joe Robertson! He loved the memories he had of friends and family there and remained close to many throughout his lifetime. He loved his coaches Jerry Jobe and L.J. Powell, and remained close to them until their deaths in 2020. He spoke often of how wonderful his childhood was. Chickasha held a very special place in his heart!

Joe was an all-star athlete in basketball, baseball and football in Chickasha through junior high and high school, and loved sports throughout his life... especially his Sooners.

Joe loved music and had an incredible ability to remember the words of many, many songs from years ago. He loved to serenade Stephanie at any opportunity... and she loved it! He often told the story about how he and his sister, Linda, sang in the lobby of a hotel for pennies and nickels in Montana while visiting his Dad in the oil fields. They were only 5 and 6 years old at the time! And then, of course, were the ballgames, more ballgames and even more ballgames. He also loved movies and could somehow tell you not only when and where he saw a movie… but also who he was with! Needless to say, Joe was a fun guy!

Joe retired from Penske Truck Leasing in 2011. He started his career in the oil and gas industry,moved into sales, then management in the transportation industry for the last 45+ years.
