Jack Edward Cash was born in Edwardsville, Alabama on January 1, 1932. His parents were Cleola (Warren) Cash and James J Cash. Jack was a proud graduate of Auburn University where he was a member of the Army ROTC and received his Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering. Jack chose to serve his country through a military career. He was a highly decorated military officer who served in the Vietnam War and retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1975. Jack went to work for the US Postal Service for 20 years from which he also retired. Jack was thankful to the Lord for bringing his wife Margaret into his life. Jack and Margaret were at a bus stop and though they had seen each other before they had never talked. Margaret struck up a conversation with Jack and the rest is a love story that spanned a lifetime. Jack and Margaret were devoted Christians and raised their family in a Christ centered home. They were members of Prairie Creek Baptist Church for over 40 years. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outside. He also loved to garden and was a bee keeper. While most houses in the neighborhood had a pool in the backyard, Jack had a huge, lush garden full of a great variety of fruits and vegetables. He kept his minister at Prairie Creek Baptist Church fully stocked with honey and vegetables as well as family and friends. On March 28, 2016 Jack went to be with the Lord after spending a wonderful Easter with his family. He lived a full life dedicated to his faith, family and friends. Jack leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Margaret, as well as his son Bryan Cash, daughter Karen Brannon, and youngest son Dennis Cash. He is preceded in death by son Michael Cash. Jack also leaves behind his grandchildren: Matthew Montgomery, Kristen Nguyen, Amanda Cash, Emily McCright, and Sally Shearin. Great grandchildren include Harley, Ashley, Aaron, Emma and Avery. There will be a funeral service held at Prairie Creek Baptist Church on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. The visitation will be held at Ted Dickey Funeral Home on Wednesday, the night before, from 6:00-8:00p.m. Graveside services will follow in Alabama.
