“Dotty” as she preferred to be called by her close friends was born in New York City and grew up experiencing the sights and culture of New York with her father and siblings, who went on weekly walks to the New York Public Library, the theaters, and movies. Although she moved to Long Island after marriage, she always considered herself a New Yorker. She loved everything about the city most especially its energy.
Dotty married the love of her life and had one son Al whom she adored.
She lived each day to the fullest and often said that its as much about the journey as the destination. She was vibrant to the end. Her zest for life was contagious and she was always ready and looking for the next adventure. Dotty traveled with her husband Al Sr.in her younger years. After her husband passed she continued traveling and exploring with her sisters Lillian and Theda. She is survived by her sister Theda. Her brother Alex and sister Lillian predeceased her in 2013 and 2016, respectively.
She said the highlights of her travels was a ride in the hot air balloon and walking on a glacier. One of Dotty's more recent trips was to the Holy Land where she was baptized in the Jordan River. When Dotty asked Pastor Justin ‘who was the oldest person he had baptized’ he had to admit it was her at the then age of 92. She continued to travel back and forth between Texas and New York to visit her ailing sister as recently as August this year on the heels of a week-long trip to Colorado Springs, CO.
Dotty was always a class act; hair, nails, clothes, matching shoes, and handbag were always perfect. She was as beautiful on the inside. Always kind and willing to help, especially her extended family.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior in her 80’s at Living Faith Christian Church in Farmingdale, NY and soon started serving there in the administrative office.
At the age of 91, she restarted her life in The Colony, Texas and quickly became involved in Prestonwood Baptist Church and The Colony Senior Center where she gained many close friends and enjoyed her spiritual and social interactions. The true testament of who she was became even more apparent in her last days. Her hospital and hospice rooms were filled with flowers and balloons and cards with many visits, emails, phone calls, video calls and video messages from friends and family. She had a remarkable ability to be a caring ‘mother’ figure to many and was able to empathize and connect with a twinkle in her eye.
Dotty was independent and determined till her last moments in this life. She knew her future in heaven was secure through her faith in Jesus Christ and was at peace about her transition. Shortly before her passing, she told her doctor that she wanted to hurry up and get this chapter over with as her husband is waiting for her.
Dotty passed away peacefully on Christmas eve after a very short illness. She did not want to depart on Christmas day. She leaves behind her son Al, granddaughter Charis, sister Theda, and and many nieces, nephews and friends. She will not be forgotten and her spirit will live on in all who knew her.
