Donna G. Ostrom passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, February 9, 2016, with family at her side. Donna was born October 1st, 1933 in Clayton, Kansas to Glen Elton Knight and Winnie Mae (Pricer) Knight. She grew up in Northern California where she was active with Job’s Daughters. She graduated from Richmond Union High School in 1951. After graduating from high school, Donna stayed in the San Fransisco Bay area and attended the University of California at Berkeley while working for State Farm Insurance. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Berkeley in 1956. Donna then transferred to the Southern California office of State Farm Insurance in Santa Ana where she worked in Human Resources and also met her future husband, Harry. They were married August 11, 1957. In 1963 Donna left State Farm to raise their four children. Donna was a selfless mother and wife, excellent homemaker and truly enjoyed planning and cooking meals for the family, friends, and guests. She enjoyed gardening and growing fruits, vegetables and herbs for the family’s meals. Once their children were grown, Donna went back to work in retail where she enjoyed a second career making new friends and keeping busy. Donna was an active member in the Faith Lutheran Church in Plano since the family moved to Texas in 1979.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 1701 E. Park Blvd., Plano, TX 75074 on Monday, 2/15/16 beginning with time to visit and celebrate Donna’s life from 10-11 a.m. followed by the memorial service from 11-12 p.m.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Harry A. Ostrom. Donna is survived by their four children and their families: Karen (Dan) Meister of Richardson; Eric (Carolyn) Ostrom of Austin; Joanna (Rich) Lockhart of Sachse; and Tekla (Scott) Mann of El Paso. She is also survived by seven grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Donna, Grandma Nana to her grandchildren, was always excited to attend their activities and celebrate their accomplishments.
