Also known as Linda, Lyndi, Mom & Grammie
Born on June 28, 1930, in Kingston, New York, Linda was the daughter of Italian immigrants, Vincent and Angela. Along with her sister Philomena, the family later moved to the Bronx, where Linda enjoyed the close-knit company of friends and relatives from "the old country," including Anthony Sassone, who would later become her husband in 1952. They shared 50 wonderful years of marriage together.
Linda and Anthony welcomed their first daughter, Toni, in 1955, and moved to Plainview, Long Island. On their 4-acre property, a former apple orchard, they grew their family with the addition of three more daughters: Judy, Linda, and Lisa.
Linda had a passion for cooking, especially for preparing Sunday dinners and holiday feasts. She loved gardening, spending time at the beach, and being surrounded by family and friends. She could often be found enjoying a quiet cup of coffee & cake or a glass of wine with her paisanos. Frequently, she’d be outside jumping rope with her girls, showing off her impressive Double-Dutch skills.
Though life with four daughters and numerous pets kept Linda and Anthony busy, they always had time for family. Relatives frequently visited, staying in one of the bungalows on their property. Summers were filled with laughter, food, trips to the beach, and even more food.
Linda lived a wonderful life, rich with family and friends. She and Anthony traveled often, especially enjoying cruises. For 20 years, they spent winters as snowbirds, loving their home in Melbourne, Florida.
In addition to her culinary talents, Linda was a skilled baker and piano player. She and her sister often played duets together.
In her later years, Linda was blessed with a loving caregiver, whom she thought of as a daughter and who cared for her with great affection.
Linda passed peacefully on the feast of St. Michael and the Archangels, September 29th.
She is survived by her daughters, Toni, Judy, Linda, and Lisa, as well as her son-in-law Michael. Her grandchildren John & Alex, James & Taylor, AJ & Kate, Devin & Kristen, Jarad, Maracate, Dylan, Brandon, Star, Michael & Allison, and Matthew & Kate, and her great-grandchildren Jake, Mary, Conner, Forrest, Everly, Cameron, and one more expected in November, will cherish her memory. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Ed and her beloved nephew and nieces.
Linda was predeceased by her husband, Anthony, and her granddaughter, Summer.
We celebrate a life well lived.
