Wednesday, February 9th. He was a bright star in this often-difficult world and will be
missed by so many friends and family members. His passing was completely
unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened.
Reuben (aka Reub, Dougie, Padre), was born on March 6, 1967, to Reuben Douglas
and Victoria Leona Carver in Augusta, Georgia. His greatest accomplishment was his
surviving children, his son Grant (23) and Lauren (21) Carver. Reuben was a loving
brother to surviving siblings Timothy (Tim) Carver and Sherrill (Sherry) Gelsomino
and preceded by brother, Kerry Carver and is survived by so many cousins, nieces,
and nephews.
After graduating from Butler High School in 1985, he joined the Navy (4 years),
stationed on a frigate, called the “USS Reuben James (FFG-57), based in Long Beach,
California. He visited several countries while deployed such as Russia and China, with
some of his closest friends that he remained in contact with. While stationed in Long
Beach, he met his wife, Jenelle Carver “Miller”, the mother of his children. He learned
the electrician trade while deployed and used that training to start his first business,
Veteran Electric and Alarm, after the military. Reuben was a true entrepreneur and
went on to start several other successful businesses including a hemp and cannabis
farm.
Reuben was passionate about everything: “mining”, bikes, and hot rod cars (especially
the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Model) in which he spent countless hours working on. He
loved to travel and visit places such as the Dominican Republic, Columbia, Peru, and
Hawaii in his later years. He had the biggest heart and we would often hear while
talking with others that he would stop at the drop of a hat for his family and friends to
help anyone in need. He had the gift of using humor to bring people together and to
build a stronger relationship with his family, work colleagues, and all he met. His
presence will be sorely missed.
Reuben was the best father that his children, Grant and Lauren, could have asked for.
One very admirable trait was how he made such an effort with his communication
with his children, talking with them each multiple times every day. He loved to share
his passions in life, showing them where he loved to travel, what he learned that day,
and what he aspired to grow in. He was incredible with his pursuit of new hobbies and
his drive to learn more.
No formal services will be held in the immediate future but a memorial date will be
disclosed within the next few months in honor of Reuben. We will provide the date and
location of the memorial in plenty of time so that planning can occur to attend the
event. Also, no flowers please! We know that he was never able to keep a plant alive
(unless it was hemp/cannabis ☺) and we want to continue that tradition on his behalf.
The Carver family welcomes any and all stories, photos, and memories that Reuben’s
family, friends, and colleagues would like to offer during the memorial so put your
thinking hats on for we would all like to hear them at the memorial.
