Martin was born in Kansas City, Kansas on June 6, 1962. He graduated from Schaumburg High School and attended Colorado Mountain College where he received his degree in Ski Area Management. He married Kathleen Templeton on August 25, 1989 and they had 3 daughters and 1 grandson.
Martin lived a life with as much adventure and shenanigans as he could fit in. He would proudly tell stories to everyone he could about his childhood adventures with his mom, his years of ski patrol in Breckenridge, Colorado, the US road trip he and Kathy went on for their honeymoon and all of the cool things he did with his daughters. He was someone who always showed up for people and tried to help out anyone he felt was down on their luck.
He loved any activity he could do outside: kayaking, dirt bike riding, camping, fishing, sailing, skiing, motorcycle racing at the track and so much more. He shared his love of these things with the people he loved most; regularly convincing his friends and family to try out whatever his new crazy hobby was that year and then taking the time to help them feel confident and ready to take on whatever challenge he had thrown their way.
He was someone who was good at everything. He poured his heart and soul into building a house for his family on as small a budget as he could while working a full time job and still found the time to bring adventure and joy to their lives. He was great at turning work into fun, regularly recruiting the help of his children and friends and creating lasting memories while still taking advantage of free labor. He knew how to get a job done efficiently so there was always room for the next adventure. Everything he set his mind to he knew he could do and he tried so hard to instill that belief in those around him. No one could outwork or outplay him. The world will not be the same without him in it.
He was survived by his wife Kathleen Templeton, his 3 daughters, Sarah, Amanda and Jessica Templeton, his grandson Lucas Templeton, his dad George Templeton and his sister Katherine Cerny.
There will be a celebration of life for Martin on Saturday, June 8th at 11:30am at his home.
