Mary Catherine Sweeney

Mary was a faithful parishioner of St. Teresa of Avila Church and treasured her Catholic faith. She was an avid gardener, who adored taking care of her vast collection of plants and flowers. Above all else, she loved and cherished her family.

She will be profoundly missed. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Marcella (Peter) Fuscaldo, Georgianne Sweeney, Phyllis Sedgwick and David Sedgwick; grandchildren Jason Riegner and Abigail Riegner, Eric (Nicole) Riegner, Amanda (Matt) Facer, Nick Riegner, Mary (Jay) Korey, Benjamin Sedgwick, Tara (Gary) Valkavitch, Timothy (Margaret) Riegner, and Maggie Sedgwick; great-grandchildren Jenna, Jack, Jamin, Eleanor, Jonah, Emma, Vincent, Timothy, Leonidas, Riley, Braya, Alana, Alora, Adley, Gage, and Dominic; her brother, Philip and sister Phyllis.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Sweeney, her siblings Frank, Joseph, Delores, and Ronald, and her son-in-law, Martin Riegner.

Friends and Family are welcomed to the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry Hwy Pittsburgh PA 15237 on Sunday April 24, 2022, from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10AM on April 25, 2022, at St. Teresa of Avila Church-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish 1000 Avila Ct. Pittsburgh PA 15237. Burial will follow at Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery (Northside Catholic)
