MARY THERESE MILLER (SHOCKEY) Age 92, originally from West Aliquippa and most recently from Ross Twp. Mary passed away peacefully on Jan. 18, 2021. Daughter of the late Olin J. Shockey and Beatrice Brennan Shockey, she was preceded in death by brothers Olin J. Shockey, Jr. and Edward P. Shockey, her beloved husband John C. Miller (Jack), an infant daughter Ann, three still-born children and one miscarried child. She was also mother of John (Jack) C. Miller, Jr. (Donna) and Mary Chris Miller Bianco (Blaise) and grandmother of John C. Miller III (Rachel), Dr. Melody Miller Caldwell (Kevin), Scott Arthur Miller, Kate Bianco Giuffre (Joe, Jr.) and Paul Bianco. She was known as “GG” by Emily Caldwell, Isaac and Autumn Miller and “Joey” Giuffre and was blessed with many nephews and nieces, including Fr. Jack Brennan, of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Mary graduated from St. Veronica High School in Ambridge, attended Seton Hill College and graduated from Mercy School of Nursing where she earned an RN degree before serving at Pittsburgh’s Mercy Hospital. After she married in 1952, she gave up her paying job to provide 24/7 free care for her father-in-law and raise her family.
Mary was devoted to Jesus, the Blessed Mother, her Catholic faith, then family and friends. She enjoyed babysitting, playing the piano, attending Over-50 Club meetings at St. Boniface Church and an occasional trip to Rivers Casino. She was a regular attendee at St. Teresa of Avila’s 4 p.m. Saturday Mass where she also participated in many spiritual enrichment programs. She enjoyed writing poems, some of which were published in a book titled UIOGD. She prayed at least an hour each day and never met a person she didn’t love. A high point of her life was a four-day trip to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico.
Mary will be remembered for her example of faith in action. While saddened that she is here no more, her family is comforted knowing where she will spend eternity! All who knew her are better for having known her, for through her they met the Lord.
Friends will be received from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. p.m. on Wed., Jan. 20, and Thur., Jan 21 at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Hwy., Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
