On January 13, 2024, John William Chelar, Jr., 92, of Pittsburgh, beloved husband of 63 years to Ruth Ann Chelar, went to be home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; also survived by his loving children, David John Chelar, of Columbus, Ohio, Joseph William Chelar of Pittsburgh, and Jean Falk (Craig) of Fombell, Pa; and his grandsons, Daniel, Aaron, and Jaden Falk of Fombell. Preceded in death by his sister, Jean Mary Grimm (2014). He graduated from Oliver High School on the Northside of Pittsburgh in 1949. While attending high school, John was in the Senior Orchestra in grades 10-12 as a violinist.
After graduation, John served from 1952-1956 in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he worked as an airplane mechanic, and traveled the world. Most recently, John was loved and known by many as “John the Barber” in the North Hills barber shop where he worked for many years. He was a devoted family man who loved God, loved people, enjoyed gardening and music. He will be dearly missed.
Friends are invited to a chapel service at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 10:30AM with Military Honors to follow. Burial will be private
