A mother holds her child’s hand for a little while, but holds their heart forever……
She was 96, born on January, 8, 1920, a native and resident of Pierre Part and passed away peacefully at her home on November 29, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Verniese is survived by her daughter, Nadine and husband Curtis Theriot; three sons- Gerald and wife Rosalind Dias Theriot, Donald and wife Glenda Settoon Theriot, all of Pierre Part and Kirk Theriot, P.E., and wife Josephine Alleman Theriot, Port Allen; sister- Ruth Matherne Daigle of Plaquemine; sister-in-laws- Therese Theriot; Allie “Babe” Theriot and Eve Matherne, all of Pierre Part and brother-in-law, Edward Clement of Bayou Pigeon; thirteen grandchildren- Donald “DJ” Theriot Jr. and wife Marlene, Pierre Part; Dean Theriot, Pierre Part; Dr. John Theriot and wife Jeannie, Baton Rouge; Dan Theriot, Pierre Part; Carmen and husband Christopher Allen, Paincourtville; Ben Theriot and wife Brittany, Port Allen; Mark Theriot and wife Nicole, Pierre Part; Gina Theriot and fiancé, Jordy Falcon, Port Allen; Tommy Theriot, Pierre Part; Courtney and husband Jason “Jace” Cox, Pierre Part; Paul Theriot and wife Amanda, Church Point; Kimberly Theriot and Tiffany Theriot, Pierre Part; and twelve great-grandchildren- Claire Theriot, Pierre Part; Alyssa and Lauren Allen, Paincourtville; Karrigan and Cameron Migues, Pierre Part; Colin and Londyn Theriot, Baton Rouge; Allie and Kate Theriot, Port Allen; Jazmynne and Gracelynn Theriot, Church Point; and Emma Cox, Pierre Part. Preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ned Joseph Theriot; parents- Paul and Christine Breaux Matherne; three brothers- Percy Matherne and wife Annette; LeRoy Matherne and wife Bessie; and Lloyd Matherne Sr; six sisters- May and husband Tony Rogacki; Pearl and husband Emmett Ross; Virgie Matherne; Melva and husband Arthur Simoneaux; Jane Clement; Audrey and husband Johnson Hedges; and brother-in-law, Whelman Daigle. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed sewing, baking, reading and above all, taking care of her family in any way she could. She had a wonderful memory and often talked about the old days. She spoke about how she loved all of her family, including nieces and nephews in her final days. Mom will be greatly missed by all but is finally reunited with dad in heaven. Pallbearers will be Donald “DJ” Theriot, Dan Theriot, John Theriot, Mark Theriot, Ben Theriot, and Jason “Jace” Cox. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Pierre Part, on Sunday, December 4, 2016 from 6 pm to 10 pm and Monday, December 5, 2016 from 7 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.
