Sterling died like he lived-with dignity and on his own terms. He was a loving, generous and supportive son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He excelled at carpenter work, gardening and hunting. Sterling and his wife, Virgie, enjoyed eating out and going to the casino. His biggest joy was getting on the floor and playing with his grandkids and later his great grandkids.
He is survived by two daughters, Patty Templet (Tim) and Tessa Mabile (Hansel "Put"); two sisters, Linda Templet (Benson) and Odette Miller; brother, Newton Aucoin (Bernice); four grandchildren, Erin Landry (Chad), Kyle Templet, Matthew Mabile (Katherine) and Erik Mabile (Hailey); four great grandchildren, Jackson Landry, Lincoln Landry, Oliver Landry and Parker Mabile, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Angeline Aucoin; wife, Virgie Aucoin; two brothers, Laurie Aucoin and Shelby Aucoin.
The pallbearers will be Mark Giroir, Matthew Mabile, Erik Mabile, Chad Landry, Bennett Templet and Dustin Bordelon. The honorary pallbearers will be Tim Templet, Hansel "Put" Mabile and Patrick Miller.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Fr. Al Davidson, Dr. Eric Gravois and staff, Vital Home Health, Bridgeway Hospice and especially his personal nurses; Shonda Ross, Lesa Washington and Na'Kyria Hearns. These women went above and beyond their duties, never leaving Daddy's side, even in the hospital. Forming a special bond that he cherished, they guided us through this difficult time with grace and encouragement. We are also grateful for all who visited during his illness and kept him in their thoughts and prayers.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024, from 9:00 am at Ourso Funeral Home until the 12:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Pierre Part. Interment to follow in the church mausoleum. Father Al Davidson will be officiating.
