Herbert was a veteran of the U.S. Army (Berlin Crisis) and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed trips to Tennessee visiting Dollywood, riding in his boat, going to music festivals, and sitting on his custom built porch spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sylvia Giroir Coupel; three daughters, Tammy Gros (Clinton), Tiffany Romero (Ernesto) and Brandy Naquin (Nic); sister, Dorothy Huval (Allen); two brothers, Lester and Edley Coupel (Beatrice); seven grandchildren, Megan Gros (Christen), Kaitlyn Benoit, Leyla Padilla, Blake Naquin, Noah Padilla, Kailey Naquin and Adriana Padilla; two great-grandchildren, Kane Gros and Marianna Bourgeois along with a host of nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Webb.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Georgina Coupel; three sisters, Nellie Mire, Winnie Miller and Mae Courville; and two brothers, Norman and Simon Coupel.
The pallbearers will be Clinton Gros, Ernesto Romero, Nic Naquin, Kenneth Coupel, Webb Coupel, and Noah Padilla.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Thibodaux Regional Hospital, Metropolitan Dialysis Center (Morgan City), Fresenius Kidney Care (Houma), the Houma VA Clinic, Acadian Ambulance and the First Responders of Pierre Part Volunteer Fire Department for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Herbert's name to the National Kidney Foundation of Louisiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 for 11:00 am at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Pierre Part with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Belle River. Father Al Davidson will be officiating.
