Central, South Carolina - Carroll Bridges, 84, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2020. Born October 27, 1936, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Edgar Wiley Bridges and Gertie Wright Bridges. He was married to Carolyn Young Bridges until her death in 2008.
Carroll (known as Monk to friends, and Monkpa to his grandchildren) was a kind-hearted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that will be missed. He is survived by his three sons: William Bridges (Mary Noland Bridges) of Central, South Carolina, Steve Bridges of Massachusetts, and Keith Bridges (Rachel Gardner Bridges) of Plymouth, Minnesota; three grandchildren: Virginia Bridges Gaulin (G. Vincent Gaulin, Jr) of Pendleton, South Carolina, William Taylor Bridges of Litchfield Beach, South Carolina, and Rosemary Bridges of Plymouth, Minnesota; one great-grandson: Laurence Benjamin Gaulin of Pendleton, South Carolina. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: Joanne Pruette (M.C. Pruette) of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Reuben Bridges (Pat Bridges) of Lake Wales, Florida, Brenda Reid of Indian Land, South Carolina, and Dennis Bridges (Karen Bridges) of Charlotte, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews that were important to him.
Monk was an active member of Pritchard Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. He enjoyed his career as a draftsman and design engineer, and was passionate about his hobbies of woodworking and bluegrass music. He especially enjoyed bluegrass music with his special friend of the last ten years, Bernice Wilson.
In addition to his parents and wife, Carroll was predeceased by his brother Bobby Bridges of Kings Mountain, North Carolina and his grandson Andrew (Drew) Ruthven Bridges of Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
A graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, January 9th at 11 am. The family requests that face coverings be worn and social distancing be observed.
