Pastor Hayes was born on July 5, 1939 to the late Riley Perry Hayes and Eulia Powell Hayes. Tommy was a devoted pastor for over 30 years to 4 churches in the Pickens area. He was committed to sharing the love of Christ and a faithful servant of the Lord. Even when his health declined, he continued to praise God and lift up others in prayer. He would always say "Help is on the way!". He was a member of Cannon Mountain Baptist Church in Pickens.
Pastor Hayes told many wonderful stories of growing up in the Pickens Mill Hill where he made life long friends. He always had a positive attitude towards life and had a wonderful, funny sense of humor. He and Mrs. Hayes loved camping at Edisto Beach and at the Wesleyan Camp near Table Rock with his family each Memorial Day weekend. He had a love for old cars, and talked about buying his first car at the age of 14. Pastor Hayes also loved his dog, Dottie, who was a faithful companion to him for many years. He also enjoyed sitting in downtown Easley at Joe's Ice Cream Parlor and listening to the trains come by during the day.
Pastor Hayes is survived by a son: Randy Hayes (Joan) of Three Forks, Montana; two daughters: Cynthia Hayes Burgess (Curtis) of Pickens and Amanda Hayes Wood (Jon) of Easley; five grandchildren: Adrianne Owen (Chris), Alyssa Malone (Shaun), Trevor Hayes (Rebecca), Olivia McCoy (Cody), and Garrett Wood; and his three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother: Jerry Hayes (Dor Lou) of Pickens.
In addition to his loving wife and parents, Pastor Hayes was preceded in death by a sister: Judith Brenda Broughton.
