Sarah was born in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Clyde and Lorena Howard.
Sarah was of Baptist Faith and a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church for thirty three years. She sang in the choir, a Sunday School teacher and was on the Bereavement Committee. God Fearing and loved the Lord, she was a strong and admirable woman. She always had a place at her table for anyone who came in the door with something to eat and a cup of coffee ready. Sarah was best known for her buttermilk biscuits and cheese grits. Sarah loved and cherished her family.
Sarah attended Tri-County community college, putting herself through nursing school, all while supporting her family.
Sarah is survived by a son, Karl Martin (Tina); five daughters Gwendolyn Martin (Michael B.), Helen Merck(Melvin), Linda Duncan(Keith), Lorena Lostraglio and Hope Harrison (Michael); twenty-five grandchildren; forty-five great grandchildren; twenty great-great grandchildren and her beloved dog, Alice. She also leaves behind numerous nieces to cherish her memory.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Gene Henderson Sr.; her parents; two sisters, Mary Joyce Granger and Eugenia Clydette Trotter; brother Milton Howard; two daughters Sharon Darlene Martin and Tambrolyn Bergholm; a son Wilmer Gene Henderson Jr.; grandson Jonathan Thomas; two great grandchildren Matthew Campos, Madison Campos; and her beloved dog, Penny.
A visitation for Sarah will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at Dillard Memorial Funeral Home, 2402 Gentry Memorial Highway, Pickens, South Carolina 29671. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Sarah will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
