Jim was born in Richmond, VA on August 1, 1953 to the late Thomas and Doris Cadd Cox. Raised by his adopted parents, Luther and Sally Nichols, he joined and retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer and was a proud member of the "SeaBees", serving during the Vietnam War. He went on after retirement to help out as a supervisor for the Habitat for Humanity during their home constructions, and was very active in his church, especially the kitchen ministry of the Life Church , until later years in his life. Jim's passion was cooking, either at his Church or serving throughout the community, and he will also be known throughout his friends for his sense of humor.
In addition to his loving wife of 34 years, Jim is survived by two sons and one daughter : Adreana "A.J" Brown (Justin) of Pickens, Jesse L. Nichols (Emily) of Pickens, and Travis Nichols (Antonia) of Virginia; eight grandchildren: Rylee Elenah Brown, Laekyn Lou Nichols, Aniyah Shae Brown, Jacari Brown, and Noah, Naomi, Nevin and Nolan Nichols; and six brothers and sisters: Warren, Linda, Dina, Jim, Joyce, and Penny. Jim is also survived by a special nephew: Jesse Beavers (Kristin), along with numerous Nephews, Nieces, Cousins, and Extended Family.
In addition to his biological parents and his adopted parents, Jim was preceded in death by several Brothers and Sisters.
Memorial services for Jim will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 28, 2021 in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, masks are required and social distancing will be observed during the attendance of the service.
