Mrs. Watson was born in Pickens County on September 27, 1942 to the late James Ernest and Daisy Durham Porter. Mrs. Watson was the former Clerk to Council for Pickens County for over 38 years. She was a faithful member of Secona Baptist Church where she served her Lord in many capacities. Mrs. Watson was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother that had a true desire to help anyone. This was shown especially through the many years she volunteered with the Coffee Shop Auxiliary with Cannon Memorial Hospital. She loved to cook, and was most famous for her red velvet cakes. Even with a heart of gold, when she played you in a game, she could be the most competitive in the room and would continue the game for hours if it meant she would win. Mrs. Watson was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially traveling and going on cruises with them.
In addition to her loving husband of 61 years, Mrs. Watson is survived by a daughter: Jill Watson Barr of Pickens; a granddaughter: Jada Madison Barr of Pickens; a brother: Carlos Porter (Shelba) of Pickens; and a daughter-in-law: Melanie Hubbard (Yancey) of Goose Creek, SC.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by a son: Nolan Watson; a son-in-law: Steve Barr; and three brothers: Alvin Porter, Rev. Charles Porter, and Wallace Porter.
