Bill left us on March 26, 2010, at the age of 90, where he has joined in heaven his beloved wife. Bill was born to Thomas & Myrtle Byrne, December 19, 1919 in Janesville, Wisconsin. Bill was a World War II Veteran, spending a number of years serving our country, in the U.S. Army. Bill met the love of his life, Lillian (Lil) Mae Bratzke, who he married on October 19, 1946. They moved to Tempe, where they raised six children; Barbara (Bruce Walters), Betty (Ron Pottorff) Tom (Donna), Robert (Lottie), Joe (Donna), and Gary (Karen). As a volunteer for the City of Tempe, Bill enjoyed coaching girls softball with several successful Teams. Committed to coaching Bill continued his passion through his career with the Tempe School District. After 20 years and retirement, Bill made it a point to carry on his legacy. When not coaching, Bill enjoyed spending time with his family. Hobbies included ASU sporting events, camping, fishing, bowling, and meeting up with friends for coffee.
Being a long time resident of Tempe, Bill earned the Neighbor of the Year Award in 2008. Preceded in death by his brother, Gene. Leaving behind his sisters, Arlene (Harry Dwyer) and Beverly (Howard Blaser), six children, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and extended family and friends. His outgoing, friendly personality and willingness to help everyone will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Visitation will be held at Carr Tenney Mortuary Wednesday, March 31, 5:00 pm. Rosary to follow at 7:00 pm. 2621 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ. A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where Bill was a devoted member. Thursday, April 1, 9:30 am. 2121 S. Rural Rd., Tempe, AZ. Bill will be laid to rest with Lilllian immediately afterwards at The Green Acres Cemetery, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale, AZ.
