Susan R. Scarsdale

Susan was born July 27, 1943 in Lebanon, NH to Luke G and Jennie E Gallagher.

Susan graduated from Camden High School in San Jose, CA in 1961. Soon after high school she became a wife, homemaker, and mother. Susan gave birth to Michael Joseph in 1962, Ann Sue in 1963, Judith Irene in 1966 and Debra Elaine in 1972.

In 1973 Susan met her lifelong friend, Lorrie Seidl, who quickly became a part of her family. They enjoyed crafting and sewing together and sold their goods at local art and craft shows. Susan also reupholstered furniture to help support her family.

Susan moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1978, as a single mother, to be closer to her parents, brother and extended family. Shortly after, she met Don Scarsdale while working at Hostess Bakery. They married in 1980 and Don became “Dad” to Susan’s four children.

During the summer months the family enjoyed many fun times at the family cabin in Camp Verde, AZ and many years later the cabin in Eagar, AZ. During the cooler months, Susan and Don enjoyed going to yard sales and having yard sales themselves. Over the years Susan continued to enjoy her reupholstering jobs as well as painting and crafts.

Susan loved spending time with her family during the holidays. Christmas time was especially important to her. Susan spent many years teaching Sunday school and enjoyed inspiring others to learn the word of God. Susan was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ’s love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing.

Susan is preceded in death by her son, Michael J. Giannobile. Susan is survived by two brothers, Luke Gallagher and Luke Nicodemus; three daughters, Ann Akin, Judith Metzendorf, Debra Ronken; nine grandchildren, Tamara, Ryan, Justin, Katie, Michelle, Michael, Gatlin, Megan, Zachary; and 11 great grandchildren and another on the way.

Service will be held at A.L. Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 5:30 PM.
