Dad, I'm thinking about you today, on the 25th anniversary of your brain surgery, and remembering all the details of your life after that day. I've had a plaque made for you and placed on the Honor Wall of my local Elks Lodge, where it will remain permanently. I love you and I really miss you!

I miss you so much. I miss my family. I don't know who to say 'Happy Birthday' to or if I should try to erase my memory on the days we should be celebrating... I'm trying to learn my lesson when I was told to 'stay out of lives' but it's so difficult and clearly something God is still  trying to get me to learn. I really long for the day that this pain goes away. I can't imagine us all in Heaven, fighting & not liking each other...  God, please help me and help us

Mom, I'll never forget what I was doing on this day, four years ago...I was finalizing the burial plans that you had put in place. Thank you for doing that...it made things so much easier. It’s been 4 years now. So much has happened. The world shut down and everyone was isolated and cut off from each other. I miss you terribly but glad you weren’t here for that. I don’t think things will ever go back to the way they were. It’s a new “normal” now. It gives me some comfort to know you are there together with Gabe and dad. I love you and miss you.

Hi Mom, is Dad there? ... Hi Dad, Happy Birthday! I just really want you to know how much I miss you. It's still an unbelievable amount after 23 years, so I don't expect that it will ever change. I saw Grandma today since it's the day she brought you into the world. How excited she and Granddaddy must have been that day! Dad, as long as I live, you won't be forgotten. But your memory will actually live beyond me, for you are still very much a part of Tiffany's memories and she talks about you, and to you, very very often. I love you

Happy Birthday, Mom. 61 years ago you gave birth to me. I wish I could remember why you couldn't see me after I was born...was it me or was it you? I do remember that you thought I had died and Dad kept telling you I was alive and in the nursery. How traumatic that must have been for you. I miss you so much and I keep having questions that I don't have any answers to. And no one left to ask. So, today I think about my life, what I've done and what I still need to do before leaving it. I love you.


Hi Dad... I miss you so much! You're the only father ever in our (mine & Tiffany's) lives that has been worth celebrating. I was 38 when you left and I wish I'd been older. There are so many things in my (older) adult life that I'd love to discuss with you...and learn from you. But I've always remembered one very important thing that you taught us girls...to change our oil every 3,000 miles! I love you, Dad. Happy Father's Day.

Happy Birthday, Mom. As I look back at photos from your past birthdays, I can't help but think about how we might be celebrating you today. I miss you so much...does a woman ever reach an age where she doesn't long for her Mom? I'm beginning to think not...which only adds to my anxiety about leaving Tiffany. I miss you so much. Thank you for leaving us with your words of 'you girls did a good job'. At the age of 60 (I can't believe I'm that 'old'!) I still have so many things that come up in my life that I wish I could talk to my Mom about. I suppose that will never end. Do you know about our move? That's one of the things I'd like your opinion on. I wish I knew the real story about you and Grandma Pittman, but I'm pretty sure the two of you have now discussed it...if you do that in Heaven. Maybe things don't need discussing, they're just forgiven...I don't know. I hope you're with Aunt Bonnie & Uncle Frelan. Tell Dad & Memaw I miss them. And tell Grandma Pittman I wish I'd known her better. I love & miss you. See you soon!

Mom…I can’t believe it’s been 3 years already. But as much as I miss you, I’m so thankful that you are with Jesus and didn’t have to be here for the last couple of years…how crazy they have been. I miss you and dad, think about you both often, and have dreams that you’re still here. Ruben is married now to a wonderful woman. Nathan is a police officer now, and Jeremiah finally came off the road and has a job where he’s home every night. Life just continues on.

Happy Anniversary! Today would have been 62 years for you two. I sat and looked at your wedding ring, with your initials and wedding date engraved on the inside, and I thought about how excited you must have been on this day. Mom, you wouldn't believe what has been going on with Wendy Williams. The media had everyone believing one thing, which wasn't true at all. I know you would have really enjoyed seeing her movie and learning the truth. Oh, and I just discovered that Brad Perry (remember him from Channel 10 a number of years ago?) has his own tv show. Don't worry though, Corey is still with Channel 10. Things are going well with Josie. Tiffany keeps talking about how proud you would be with her riding skills...and she's right! She chatters to you both all the time, but I'm sure you hear her. I love you both and miss you every day.

I miss you both so much. Your Christmas flowers are beautiful and I'm so grateful to Jenice for ordering them. I can't believe how our new horse has connected with Tiffany...I wish I could have had my sister's guidance in selecting this horse but I think I made a good choice. This time of year is normally a very difficult time for me...has been for years. But this year, with being able to focus on Josie, it seems much easier. I wanted Tiffany to experience the joy of owning a horse while I'm still able to do the physical part of it. Tiffany and I had a wonderful time in northern AZ for her birthday. We visited so many of the monuments and Nat'l Parks you took our family to when we were kids. It was a great trip filled with old, and now new, family memories. Thank you taking us all those places...it has been a mixture of emotions seeing all those old photos of our family traveling together. I miss you both so much and I love you even more.

I wish that we had the technology to leave messages like this for Dad, but I know he gets them anyway. Dad, I've thought about you all day today, on what would be the 95th anniversary of your birth. I can't even imagine you at that age...in my mind you are still my Dad that can always do, or fix, anything. You know, I've been through the many photos of the trips you took us on when we were kids, so I just took Tiffany on vacation to recapture some of those memories with photos from 2020. I CANNOT believe you and Mom (not to mention us kids) were able to get in and out of Walnut Canyon! Granted, I'm prob 20yrs older than you were at the time, but I definitely need to plan another trip there after I get in better shape! It was a wonderful time of remembering the family I had, and sharing it with Tiffany. Thank you for spending that kind of time with your family. So on this day of remembering you in particular, I'm also remembering Grandma Pittman and wondering what it like for her on this day. I have some special baby pics of her with you. I love you. I miss you...all the time. See you soon..

Hi Mom
I don't know why writing you this way is some sort of an outlet for me. I talk to you all the time and I visit your resting place, but somehow this is comforting to me. Your flowers are beautiful...your oldest (and maybe your youngest also) have arranged for fresh (silk) flowers to be placed for you & Dad, as well as for Memaw. Speaking of Memaw, I think you would be very happy that my cremation bench has been built and now sits at Memaw's feet. I have learned that you were only in your 40's when you and Dad made your final arrangements...that was so young yet so forward-thinking. It feels amazingly comforting to know that everything has been arranged for myself and for Tiffany, since there will be no one to handle our final affairs. I am still working diligently to get my household in order so that my affairs will be as simple as possible, and my personal belongings will be minimized, for whoever cleans up after me.  I had a real struggle the last couple of weeks over handmade afghans...so beautiful and so lovingly made. But that no longer exists and they were a visual reminder of a lost relationship. Your bluebird wind chime hangs in my bedroom. The hummingbird nest is still on it. Every time my head brushes against it, I say hi to you. Here's an interesting thing...all the years that I took care of you, every time I brushed my teeth I would ridiculously gag and I would say hi to Dad. Remember his gagging? Probably the last year or so of your life, when I would gag and say hi to Dad, I also told him I was taking care of you. Interestingly enough, since you left, I have not gagged even one time while brushing my teeth. I think gagging was Dad's way of communicating with me. I kind of miss his communication (although I wished it were ANYTHING but gagging!) so I'm taking that as now he's at peace with you by his side and he doesn't have time to send me a gagging message every day. Well, I've got myself crying again so it's time to say goodbye for now.

Mom,  I can't believe it's been a year since you left. I think about you nearly every day. I miss you so much. I think about the pain you suffered in 2015. I know, without a doubt, you'd willingly go through it again in order to do what you did for your grandaughter (Mom knows what that means). Every time it rains I want to call you to see if it's raining at your house. I want you to know that you were almost right in your fear that handling your final affairs would be too much for me. It almost was. But with God's endurance and the tenacity I inherited from you, I've made it through the past year. I am at peace with the decisions I've made on your behalf, and I feel that you would be pleased. It's been so difficult...harder than I ever imagined, losing you. I didn't realize how often we spoke on the phone, until we couldn't. One of the most difficult and emotional things for me was cancelling your phone number...that was absolutely heart-wrenching. I love you and I miss you. I still haven't found my new 'normal' since I'm no longer taking care of you and Aunt Bonnie. It's still a struggle, but through losing you I'm realizing how my own daughter will continue living without me. I've spent so much time going through photo's and details of your entire life that I've learned what an amazing woman you were. Thank you for raising me. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for loving your grandaughter. Thank you for your tenacity to stay married to Dad when things were rough. I believe you and Dad are enjoying each other in a whole new 'heavenly' way. I hope Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Frelan are with you. I am anxious to be with you and Dad, and my heavenly Father. I know time is different for you in heaven, so the best I can say is I will see you both soon. 

Shirley was a vital part of our Maranatha Class at Palmcroft Church.  She was there every Sunday when she was well and able.  She took it upon herself to send out cards to our members for birthdays and anniversaries.  She kept up this ministry even after  she was not able to attend.

Shirley loved the Lord and was open and wiling to service the Lord in any way that she could in the church fellowship.  She was a blessing  to all.

I have so many its had to choose just one. But going to church on Sundays and her giving me a piece of cinnamon trident gum in the sanctuary and to slowly chew it so none would know we had gum in. Staying over on weekends and staying up late watching chuck Norris, Andy Griffith show and others. Her putting on "Home alone" and telling us kids that there are bad words in it and we are not to repeat them. Or putting us to sleep at night and saying our prayers.

" now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the lord my soul to keep. If should die before I wake I pray the lord my soul to take. God bless, mom, dad, nathan, gave, ruben, grandpa, grandma."  Amen

Banana pudding, black eyed peas, ice cream, E.T., and hearing "well, what d'ya know" are just some of the things that remind me of you, memories that easily put a smile on my face. I miss your tenacious spirit and "never give-up attitude," but despite the sorrow, am at ease knowing you are at peace.

Mom, throughout our journey together there were ups and downs, and I am so thankful for the last few years that were defintely all “ups”. I am going to miss our regular visits, getting you in the car and going to lunch and having you take off across the parking lot while I’m still trying to close the car up, bringing you lunch after church on Sundays and having you tell me to “get that crab thing off my plate”, and of course getting our waffle cone of ice cream. We’ve played games, worked on puzzles and just sat outside and watched the turtles. It’s going to be different now, but I can only imagine the joy you now have, being with dad, and with Gabe, and of course in the constant presence of Jesus. In my humanness I am sad you’re gone, but I also know that now you are at peace, there is no more pain...physical or emotional. 

Mom, I am thankful for the time we had for our visits. I enjoyed your "can do" spirit when you climbed up into my truck and we went and shared barbecue lunches, and those moments of working on jigsaw puzzles together at the hospital. I will miss having more of those times with you.
