She attended school in Honey Grove, Texas, where she was an exceptional student and loved to play basketball. It was at Bralley-Pendleton High, in Honey Grove, where she met the love of her life: Wilbert “Sonny” Battle. Sarah and Sonny were married June 13, 1953.
Sarah accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age, while attending New Hebron Baptist Church in Brookston. After arriving in Arizona, she attended Southminster Presbyterian Church for several years.
While raising five children, Sarah worked for the City of Phoenix as a library clerk for nearly 30 years at the Main, Ocotillo and Harmon branches.
Sarah was an amazing cook and loved cooking for her family. She made hands down the best sun tea (ask anyone who’s tried it). She also enjoyed working puzzles, quilting, listening to music and having “her time” in her backyard.
Sarah was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 66 years, Wilbert Lee Battle; two sons, Jeffrey Lee and Michael Dee; and her eight siblings Hughley, F.D., L.D., Fred, Henry (brothers), Freda, Baby Ruth and Mae Frances (sisters).
Left to cherish many special memories are: her children Rhonda, Thomas (Brenda), Todd (Margaret), and Kimberly; 10 grandchildren Jodi, Jeffrey, Lauren, Erik, Alexis, Taylor, Tiffani, Jasmen, Todd Jr. and Bryan; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; plus a host of children who affectionately call her “Nana,” as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
We love you and will miss you! Until we meet again...
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.resthavencarrtenney.com for the Battle family.
