Pamie grew up in Phoenix and graduated from Cortez High School where she served as the yearbook photographer.
Pamie married her high school sweetheart Jerro Smith in 1976 and they started their family that same year. Their first born April was at their wedding, and two years later in 1978, a little sister Ashley arrived.
Pam was a devoted and selfless mother to them both.
Later when the girls were older Pam started her own business called “Flowers by Pamela”. She created and sold numerous dried floral arrangements that were gorgeous for the era. She also dabbled in cake decorating and was pretty darn good at it. Pamie used her cake decorating skills to make April and Ashleys many birthday cakes.
Pamie also loved to enter her floral pieces into the Arizona State Fair . She was awarded numerous ribbion, most of them blue.
Her career started at Motorola as a young woman. She also worked at Strafford Studio as a retouch artist before the days of photoshop. She could retouch the braces off of a teen like they were never there. This skill took a trained and steady hand.
Pam eventually ventured into the world of fresh cut flowers, she loved it so. She excelled at this skill and become an award winning floral designer. She achieved the title of Arizona State floral Designer of the year three times and she also placed twice in the California top ten designers twice. Pamie was a member of the Arizona State Floral association.
She served as manager at the following floral shops, La Counts, My Florists, North Scottsdale Floral and Phoenix flower shops.
Pamie had a major career change in the late 90’s and become a vampire, AKA, a Phlebotomist, which was something she aspired to do for years.
Pam had also earned a total of 30 college credits, mostly from Phoenix College and some from South Mountain Community College, she maintained a 4.0 grade average while working full time and taking care of toddlers.
Pam worked at United Blood services wher she put in 10 years of service. She drew donor blood, helping to save thousands of lives.
Pamie kept working for United Blood even after she was told she needed dialysis every other day. She wanted to make a difference in peoples lives, even if she didn’t feel well.
She eventually had to retire from UBS and her full time job became surviving. She took to taking solace in her avid collecting of Fenton Glass, Limoges, Steiff, and miniature glass animals. She also loved to sell her duplicates on EBAY. {Boy are they going to miss her}.
Pams final years were tough but so was she. She endured frequent hospital stays, doctor visits, surgery’s and dialysis. Pam was such a fighter she refused to get an electric scooter. She said “ I’ll get around on my OWN power”, she compromised by using a walker.
Pam was tough as nails and an inspiration to many. She had genuine love for her family friends and fur babies. Her character was very unique and blunt at times but she always had a positive outlook.
Pam had come back from the brink of death many times, defining the doctors because of her will to fight. She proved her resilience for many years and we all saw her as indestructible even though she was critically ill for more than a decade. We all thought she’d out live us all so her passing is utterly surreal. Her passing was a sudden shock because of how strong she was. We knew this day would come but not now.
Pam is with God and all of her beloved friends , family and fur babies, the suffering has come to an end. No more stupid dialysis or as she referred to it “ducking fialysis” Her well fought battle came to a close January the 11th, 2017.
Thank you Lord for welcoming Pamie into your loving and merciful arms. We love you Pamie.
