97, passed away on January 4, 2015. Opal was born on October 15, 1917 in Holyoke, Colorado to parents Benjamin Franklin and Ida Marie Sandy. She had three brothers, Bud, Gerald and Dick and two sisters, Treva and Betty. Opal came to Arizona in 1924 where she started learning piano. She lived a long life filled with love. Opal loved all of her family and friends and never met a stranger, she had a heart as big as Texas! She loved to laugh, listen to music, dance, play cards, teach and to be around babies. She played piano on one of Waylon Jennings albums. She lost her child, Judy Kaye to SIDS. Opal made lemonade when life gave her lemons. She always had a great attitude and was fiercely loyal. Opal was a beautiful person in every way. She lived life to the fullest and touched many lives. Our hearts break, but we are grateful for the blessing of our sweet Opal, thank you God for sharing her with us! We will miss you mom! Opal is survived by her children; Dan Mickelson, Nancy Sheward, Gary Mickelson, John Mickelson, Linda Penn, Debra Werner, Pam Conway, Tim Conway, Ron Conway, and Jeff Conway, 33 grandkids, 47 great grandkids and nine great-great grandkids.
