Norma Jeanne Cooper

She was born in Haskell, Texas on August 27th 1927 and moved with her parents to Phoenix during the depression. She met Clarence Cooper when she was 13 and he was the only man for her. They graduated from Phoenix Union High School and married in August 1946. They started their family and proceeded to have five children from 1947-1953: Galen (David), Becky, Pat (Kevin), Karen (Jim) and James (Melodee).

Norma had 12 grandchildren, plus the additional 9 married in-law grandchildren. She loved all of them equally. She had 24 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was very proud of all her family and often said “I am so blessed to have this family”.

When her children were raised, Norma went to college and earned her BS and Master’s degree in Education. She loved teaching the younger grades and cherished every one of her students.

After her retirement from teaching she became a volunteer caregiver and friend to the elderly. She “adopted” many people and would take them places, do chores for them and comfort them. She loved to go to estate and yard sales, and she was known to get off her sick bed to shop at a good yard sale. She loved all the holidays and took great joy in decorating her house for every one of them.

Norma had a sweet tooth and would never turn down a bite of candy, pie, cookie or ice cream.

One of her passions was collecting angels. She loved receiving angels from others and would proudly put them on display. She is now our angel in heaven and will be missed by family and friends.
