77, Native of Port Arthur, Texas, resident of Glendale, Arizona, entered into heaven on July 12, 2010 at the exact time of his first grandchild’s birth. He will always be remembered for his everlasting love of God, his wife, children, grandchildren, nature, animals, corny jokes, John Wayne and oh yes, Dryer’s Ice Cream. A U.S. Army Veteran and companion to one for nearly 53 years. He was a City of Phoenix employee for 25 years where he began his career as a driver and retired as a Sanitation Inspector. He was an affectionate grandfather to 4, an adoring great-grandfather to 3 and 1 on the way, and a friend to countless. He is preceded in death by his son Nick Roland. He is survived by his wife Janie, son Ernie (Sylvia), daughter Sandra (Don), grandchildren Alex (Callistine), Gabriel, Danielle (Tristen), Sarah Jane, and great-grandchildren Alejandro, Diego, Milana, and soon to arrive, Baby Douglas. He is also survived by his brother Gilbert, and sisters Rachel and Fina. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please send donations to Hospice of the Valley, The Gardiner Home, 1522 W.
