Mary Wilma Zurek

Mary Wilma Zurek, 89, of Tempe, Arizona, was born December 5, 1923 in Hilliards, Pennsylvania to the late parents of John and Susan Emery. Mary has resided in Arizona since 1956 after moving here from Monaca, PA with her family; husband Thomas, daughter Susan and son Thomas Jr. She lost her son to Cystic Fibrosis in 1957 at the age of 11 and her husband of 50 years in 1994.

Her parents immigrated to the United States of America from Hungary along with her Sister Elizabeth. She and her two brothers John and Andy were born and raised in Pennsylvania by their sister Elizabeth after losing her parents when she was 4 and 5 years of age. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Cozart, brother, John Emery, brother Andrew and sister-in-law Mary Emery, and nephew Lou and niece Mary Lou Demeter.

She retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1985, was an avid Phoenix Suns fan, loved to read and enjoyed the many travels she shared with husband and family. The highlight of her life was the birth of her granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Tim Tyers of Tempe, AZ, granddaughter Traci Tyers of Kansas City, MO, granddaughter and husband, Kerri and Mike Sydell and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Nora Sydell of Chandler, AZ, and nieces and nephews in PA.

There will be a Funeral Service, Sunday July 21st 2:00 p.m. at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 2621 South Rural Road (Rural & Alameda), Tempe, Arizona. Following the funeral service, please join the family at the home of Tim & Susan.
