Joyce I. Ramsey, 97, an Arizona native, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Friendship Village Hospice of the Valley in Tempe, Arizona. Joyce was born in her parents’ Phoenix home. She is survived by her son, Jim Ramsey, daughter, Becky Kreutzer, 4 grandchildren(Shelly, Chad, Jeff and Sandra), 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and sister Judy Scarborough. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie and husband Earl of 58 years. She was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School, earned an Associate of Arts Degree in home economics from Phoenix College and was a lifelong member of Eta Chi Epsilon Sorority. She was a stay-at-home mom her entire life and loved cooking, sewing and family gatherings. She loved dancing to Big Band music, was an avid golfer, longtime ASU football fan and loved playing poker. She also liked anything butterfly-related and proudly displayed her collection throughout her "Ramsey's Roost" home. She rafted down the Colorado River with her son and twin grandchildren Shelly and Chad. The highlight of her adventures was when she did a tandem skydive jump when she was 78 years young. She was also famous for her unexpected "zinger jokes". She always had a smile on her face, was always a giver, and faithfully served others, especially at church where she kept the courtyard information kiosk up to date every month. She was the treasured matriarch of our family (affectionately called “GG” by her great-grandchildren) and will be missed greatly!
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3530 N. 32nd St., Phoenix Arizona. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service.
