Joy Susanna Gilbert was born January 28, 1942 in Monmouth, Illinois to Pearl Marie & Chester Elmer Daniels. She came to Phoenix with her parents in 1944. She went home to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ, February 14, 2012 at her home in Lake Montezuma, AZ. Joy was aptly named, for she indeed brought joy to everyone with her beautiful smile & concern for all. This was truer to no one more so than her loving husband, Harry D. “Bud” Gilbert III who always referred to her as “The Joy of My Life.” Also surviving, Bud and Joy’s daughters, Pamela Joy Manion and Martha Marie Gilbert and stepchildren H. David Gilbert, IV, Rebecca Medina, Donald Gilbert, Susanna Wussow, Arthur Gilbert ,and Judith Scott along with their respective spouses. Twenty grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all deeply loved by Grandma also survive. Joy was a retired telephone company employee with 30 years experience, having last worked as a directory assistance operator. Joy was an active member of the Lake Montezuma Mad Hatters (Red Hat Society), having served as their Queen Mum for three years. Joy was infamous for her many sewing projects, weekly baking, and love for entertaining guests. She was a member of the Paradise Valley Community Church, and faithfully attended and participated in the Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Rimrock near her Lake Montezuma home. Services are scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 1 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Paradise Valley Community Church 4242 E. Greenway Rd. Phoenix, and interment at Phoenix Memorial Park. The family asks that Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made on Joy’s behalf to either of the aforementioned churches
