John Keysar Winn, 75, of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020. John was born in Windsor, Vermont on June 18, 1945 to Edward (Ed) and Janice (Necie) Winn. He was raised in Vermont until 1957 when the family decided to move West to Phoenix, Arizona. John attended Mountain View Elementary and then Maryland Elementary School. He attended Washington High School and graduated in 1963. He broke his leg playing football freshman year and then he became interested in the sport of wrestling. He wrestled all 4 years of high school and was a great asset to the team. John went to Phoenix College on a wrestling scholarship. After 1 year of college, he decided that college was not for him and he began working in a foundry. In January 1967, he was drafted and went into the Army. He served in the Vietnam War as a paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was "Honorably" discharged in December 1968. He returned to Phoenix and began building pole buildings. Soon after, he began working for his father-in-law at R.E. "Danny" Daniels Contracting Company as a heavy equipment operator. In 1980, at 35 years old, he began his career as a FireFighter with the City of Phoenix. He was older than many of his fellow firefighters and they nicknamed him, "The Old Man". He retired in June 2004 after 24 years of service. John loved the great state of Arizona and all it had to offer. He knew so much about Arizona and would share with anyone who was interested. He loved to explore, backpack, hike, rock-climb, repel and go four-wheeling. In his younger years, he loved to hang-glide and parachute. He also had a passion for crossword puzzles, trivia, and playing cribbage. John was a great friend to many and he will be missed by all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
John is survived by his children, Scott Fincanon, Aimee Veros and Travis Winn (Lisa Hirsch). His grandchildren, Derick Fluellen (Ashley), Lacey, Joshua and Emily Veros. His sister, Jenny Taylor (Mark), as well as many loved family members and friends.
