John Robert Strachan

Bob was born on May 29, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Corrine (Bell) Strachan. He was a graduate of Collinwood High School where he met the love of his life, Shirley. They married on December 29, 1951 just before he left for Parris Island, South Carolina to attend USMC boot camp.

After Bob completed his stint in the Marine Corps, he worked as a mechanic in his Father’s Sohio gas station in Eastlake, Ohio. Bob and Shirley had two children; daughter Cheryl and son Robert.

In the summer of 1970, the family moved to Glendale, Arizona where Bob could play golf year round. Bob was a mechanic at Valley Dodge for some 28 years. He retired from work and was Shirley’s caretaker during her fight with colon cancer until her death on August 6, 1997.

Bob met Glenda Cook through a bereavement group after Shirley’s death. They married in 1999. Bob and Glenda lived in Bob’s house in Phoenix until 4 years ago when he suffered a series of strokes leaving him handicapped. The house in Phoenix was too difficult for him to maneuver so they moved to Glencroft Senior Living to make life easier. Glenda passed away in June 2016.

Bob lived by himself with the assistance of ComForCare employees who made his last days much easier. Wendy, Gary, Jessica, Joy & Shauna were instrumental in seeing that he was completely at peace when the end came.

Bob was predeceased by his parents John & Corrine, the love of his life Shirley and his second wife, Glenda. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl (Len) Doty of Anaheim, CA, granddaughters Heather Cooper and Hollie Currier-Carlson of North Dakota, and great grandchildren Elianna & Gavyn (Heather’s children) and Mikayla, Zachary & RJ (Hollie’s children;, son Bob (Shelley) and grandsons Shawn & Shane Strachan of Peoria.

A closed casket service will be held at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N 27th Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85009 at 1:00 pm Friday, January 20, 2017.
